John Masters discovers Gomer's singing voice and decides to give him the solo in
the upcoming concert instead of Barney. When Gomer realizes how important the
solo is to Barney he fakes laryngitis, and just before curtain, Andy has to talk
Barney into going on. Gomer's trick is discovered when, in his excitement to see
Barney, he forgets himself and speaks in a full voice. As a result, Barney
refuses his charity, but Andy grabs both of them as the curtain goes up and the
solo becomes a trio.

As Aunt Bee and the driver run around behind the laundry van to open the door, if you look in the drivers side rear door window you can see the reflection of a "boom mic" in the window. When semi-retired barber Bill Medwin (Herb Vigran) comes in looking for work, Floyd sees a chance to expand. Andy Taylor encourages him to hire Medwin so Floyd can finally achieve his dream of running a two-chair shop ("Two Chairs, No Waiting"). Medwin offers to work on commission, supply his own chair and equipment, and bring in his own customers. Floyd agrees.

			Business quickly picks up, with many new "out-of-town" customers. Andy grows suspicious after noticing the same men repeatedly entering the shop. Information from the town's telephone exchange operator (Sarah) confirms that Medwin is actually a bookie running an illegal gambling/bookmaking operation out of the barbershop. The regular visitors are delivering the day's collections (betting slips and money) from various betting spots rather than seeking haircuts.

			To catch them in the act, Barney Fife goes undercover dressed as an elderly woman (the first time he dresses in women's clothing on the series; he does so again later in "The Bank Job"). The plan succeeds: Andy and Barney confront and arrest Medwin and his associates with the betting slips and proceeds. Floyd remains largely unaware of the true nature of his temporary partner's business.
